The city government here took off its landfall in the ‘Hall of Famer’ for Red Orchid Award this year, a recognition given by the Department of Health (DOH) for strictly enforcing tobacco control measures for three years in a row.
Mayor Joseph Tan said the strict implementation of the ‘100% Smoke Free Environment and Smoking Prohibition Policy’ within the city government’s premises has contributed a lot in receiving the highest recognition.
With this success, the mayor vowed to continuously support anti-smoking campaigns and programs of the national government.
“With or without the award, we will continue to enforce our anti-smoking drive in the hope to become a Smoke-Free City,” Tan added.
As ‘Hall of Fame’ awardee, the city government received a trophy, a certificate and P500,000 project grant to sustain its tobacco control activities and measures.
The DOH Red Orchid Awards was conceptualized to combat tobacco use and to work for a tobacco-free environment.
Aside from LGUs, the awards also covers LGU hospitals, government offices and DOH Centers for Health and Development.
