40 IPs to undergo loom weaving training

By Merlito G. Edale Jr.

Some 40 Indigenous Peoples (IPs) here will be the first batch of beneficiaries to be trained on loom weaving initiated by the city government in partnership with the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) and the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI).

The DTI- Santiago City has provided six loom weaving machines for the training while the DOST will provide the trainors.

Mayor Joseph Tan said the training is not only intended to Indigenous Peoples but also cater to women’s groups here.

Tan said the loom weaving is in support to IPs and women’s groups in a bid to increase their income and also time to make loomed cloth as the city’s one town one product (OTOP).

“We will flourish loom weaving in the city aside from its kown local products like muscovado, patupat and vinegar out from sugarcane,” the mayor added.
