The city government here has allotted P4.4 million as its counterpart for the Department of Labor and Employment’s Special Program for the Employment of Students (SPES) this summer.
Fedencio Dasalla Jr., public employment and service office coordinator here, said under the program, DOLE shoulders 40 percent of the salaries of beneficiaries, while the city government pays the 60 percent.
He said the program aims to assist poor, but deserving, students pursue their education by encouraging employment of those in high school during summer and Christmas vacations, and those in college, technical, or vocational level at any time of the year.
As a school-to-job bridging program, he said the SPES will also provide student an early public service involvement thru the different department and offices here that initiates and implements various government programs and projects.
“The student-beneficiaries have started working since April and their services will end on May 19, 2015,” Dasalla added.
