City health office intensifies 4S strategy vs dengue

By Merlito G. Edale Jr.

The City Health Office (CHO) here has beefed up its information dissemination campaign on the 4S strategy against dengue in a bid to increase public awareness from the mosquito-borne disease.

Edgar Ramonchito Bayang, Assistant City Health Officer, said 4S stands for Search and Destroy, Self-protection Measures, Seek Early Consultation and Say No to Indiscriminate Fogging.

Bayang said the city health office has registered a total of 91 dengue cases from January to March 2015 monitoring in the city.

He said there were only about 32 suspected cases recorded last year.

“We are conducting series of dialogues with the barangay officials and urged them to lead in the clean-up drive particularly in areas with high cases of dengue. This is to protect the residents from the potentially life-threatening disease,” Bayang added.

If there is a suspected dengue case in a particular area, Bayang said the victim should immediately seek medical attention.

The medical doctor added that dengue is characterized as an acute illness suddenly acquired by an individual with symptoms like fever, headache, exhaustion, rashes, and severe muscle pain, frequently accompanied by sore throat, dizziness, loss of appetite, vomiting, and diarrhea.
